Communion is a Christian practice that is considered a sacrament in most churches and an ordinance in others. It is also known as the Lord’s Supper and Holy Communion.
Consecrated bread and wine are consumed during this sacrament as remembrances of Christ’s death, as signs of the spiritual union between Christ and the communicant, or as the body and blood of Christ.
What is the purpose of communion?
Jesus urge His disciples to continue doing this in remembrance of him as seen in the bible account account of (Mark 14:22–24 KJV).
Jesus was broken for us so that He could mend us. Communion commemorates the story of Jesus, how He entirely sacrificed Himself to give us a better life, a new beginning, and a new relationship with God as seen in (1 Peter 3:18).
Benefits of communion?
The goal of communion is to “receive from Christ the sustenance, strength, hope, and joy,” according to pastor and theologian John Piper.
“These come through feasting our souls on everything He bought for us on the cross, especially His own company.”
Below are the benefit with analysis;
To recall Christ: Remembering Jesus Christ reminds us of the gift of repentance that His Atonement provides. Jesus encourages us all to repentance, and we rejoice as we turn away from sin and toward Him.
When we recall Christ it means that we understand God’s plan in the world to bring glory to himself, restore creation to its original splendor, and provide salvation for sinful mankind.
Recalling Christ means that we agree with (Luke 19:10 KJV KJV), ‘For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost”.
Improves Self-Examination: As we compare our thoughts, words, and deeds to those of Jesus, we can become more Christ-like.
A Christian should examine himself to ensure that he is still on track and in accordance with God’s thinking and will.
It assists him in assessing his spiritual life and determining where he is falling or has fallen in order to make required changes. On many occasions, Christians have been called to examine themselves.
It aids Christians in gaining strength: Patience, endurance, and self-control are the foundations of a really fruitful and expressive Christian life.
Robert C. Roberts provides a thoughtful analysis of these characteristics as strategies for Christians to stay on track with hope, faith, joy, thanksgiving, and love.
Reach out with compassion and kindness, and try to be as understanding as possible. Allow it to become a natural part of your life as you discover how to encourage people in the Lord.
Even if they aren’t going through anything “major,” you can encourage them by just letting them know you’re thinking about and praying for them.
Assists us in experiencing eternal life: According to hat we have in the bible account of (John 3:16 KJV), this let us know that believing in Jesus Christ will gives everlasting life.
One thing we should do to show that we want to live everlasting life is to remember his death as he instructed before he left.
Everlasting life with Jesus begins the moment we accept Him into our lives. The life we begin with Jesus on Earth will last forever.
It reminds us of Christ’s never-ending love: Love is one of the few things we will do once we have totally accepted God and who he is. Love will never go out of style.
Jesus demonstrated His love for others during His earthly ministry by blessing and serving the impoverished, ill, and troubled. “This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I have loved you,” Jesus said to His disciples.
